In exclusive interviews and air traffic control audio, #SKYKING tells the story of Horizon Air ground service agent Richard “Beebo” Russell, who clocked into work, stole a $33 million plane, and took off into the skies of the Pacific Northwest—embarking on a white-knuckle flight that came to embody the hopes, dreams, and despair of the American working class, offering a timely look into the U.S. mental health crisis.

I designed and animated the title and graphics in the film.

I’ve worked closely with director Patricia Gillespie on several films. The typography direction for the title was inspired by the machined typeface “Gorton” used on aviation instrumentation panels, typewriters/keyboards, and mechanical signage. It connected the title to the protagonist’s job as a grounds crewman, his working class background, and the simple, direct honesty and goodness of Richard "Beebo" Russell. The typography extended to lower thirds and date/location cards used throughout the film.
